Zakopane Tatra Mountains
Zakopane is located in the heart of the Tatra Mountains and is the so-called “winter capital of Poland”. It has a reputation of a perfect winter resort with a vibrant cultural life. Located just 100 km (60 miles) from Kraków, it is a very popular destination for holidays. Zakopane attracts with the proximity of beautiful mountain trails and its original folklore. In summer, Zakopane impresses with its many valleys, peaks and ponds, and in winter with excellent ski conditions.
Our private tour to Zakopane from Kraków takes around 8-9 hours. We usually set the pick-up time between 8 AM and 10 AM. The trip takes about 1.5-2 hours one way. We have prepared a standard travel plan that you can follow. It includes a stop at the sculptor’s home in Chochołów on the way, visiting the famous market in Zakopane and the cable car, as well as Krupówki and Ski Jumps. There are many things to do in Zakopane. Almost every mountain trail is just a short walk from the city centre. The most popular place for hiking is Gubałówka, a mountain famous for its beautiful panorama. Tourists often also choose Kasprowy Wierch, which can be reached by tram. Giewont is also popular – a massif in the shape of a sleeping soldier who, according to the legend, will wake up to protect his homeland during the danger. Near Zakopane there are numerous mountain ponds and valleys.
It is worth visiting the city of Zakopane, also to admire its original architecture and local folklore. Krupówki, one-kilometre long main street, is crowded with small stalls offering traditional dishes, such as smoked sheep cheese – “oscypek”. You can also buy typical souvenirs like “ciupaga” (shepherd’s axe) or leather shoes called “kierpce”. During your trip to Zakopane, you will undoubtedly discover beautiful fauna and flora, interesting architecture and original culture.
